What to Write in a Christmas Card for a Coworker

Staring at a blank card for someone you see every day but don't know that well? Here are short, office-safe messages sorted by situation. Mix and match, and add one specific detail if you can; that's what makes a message feel personal.

Simple and warm

• "Wishing you a relaxing holiday and a great start to the new year."
• "Merry Christmas! It's been a pleasure working with you this year."
• "Happy holidays! Hope you get some well-earned rest."
• "Thanks for being such a great part of the team. Enjoy the season!"
• "Season's greetings and all the best for 2027."

Funny (but safe)

• "Merry Christmas to the only person who understands the printer."
• "Thanks for surviving another year of meetings that could have been emails."
• "May your inbox be empty and your cookie plate full."
• "Out of office: mentally, since about December 15th. Merry Christmas!"
• "Have a holly jolly break. The spreadsheets will wait."

For a work bestie

• "I'd have quit three times this year without our coffee breaks. Merry Christmas!"
• "Thanks for the snacks, the rants, and the backup. Best work friend ever."
• "To my favorite coworker (don't tell the others). Happy holidays!"

For a boss or manager

• "Thank you for your support and guidance this year. Happy holidays!"
• "I've learned so much from you in 2026. Wishing you a restful break."
• "Thanks for leading a team that's genuinely great to work with."

For someone you manage

• "Your work on [project] made a real difference. Thank you, and enjoy the holidays!"
• "I'm grateful to have you on the team. Have a wonderful Christmas."

For a new hire

• "So glad you joined us this year! Merry Christmas and welcome aboard."
• "Your first holiday season with the team. Here's to many more!"

For a coworker who is leaving

• "We'll miss you around here. Merry Christmas and good luck in the new role!"
• "Thank you for everything you've done for the team. Keep in touch!"
